Wheatsheaf Heatherside 2 vs 1 Wheatsheaf Youth FC
(By Kenny & Clarky)
Paul Warner 1
Joe Simpson 1
We missed the first five minutes due to heavy
traffic on the Red Road because of an over turned Ford Fiesta and Clarky was
late picking me up !!!
When we did finally arrive it was a close but fierce 0-0 with the Stranie
brothers battling in mid-field due to Kev Taylor having a life or death
ankle injury forcing the management team to put 'H' the Harry Hawker at
centre back with Allen the pit ball sweeper.
The Stranie brothers had a tough morning against a much younger and better
looking opposition mid-field BUT!! The opening for the Wheatsheaf Reserves
came in he 26th minute when the ball was played down the left and was
crossed to the inform 'Crouch' who, after thinking for a while, got the ball
on to his right foot and smashed! yes smashed!! the ball passed the keeper
to put the Reserves 1-0 into the lead. The rest of the half saw the Youth
create a few chances down the right but a frozen pitch, shorts that don't
fit and hang down over your arse, didn't make for a crossing opportunity.
Half time : 1-0
The second half started with the Youth hustling and harrying the ball and
they got their just deserts when a ball was put high in the air and the
solid centre back replacement 'Harry' was blinded by the sun leaving striker
'Markam' to latch onto the non challenged ball and he coolie slotted the
ball past the cold but in-form keeper.
Full time : 1-1
Extra time and in the first 15 minutes the only chance was from the Reserves
goal keepers kick while Clarky and I had a coffee. As the second half of
extra time started the game was anyone's with end to end action that could
have seen both by now very cold keepers looking fearfully at a penalty
shootout. Eventually the Reserves struck with deadly precision passing to
get behind the Youths back four, Simmi picked the ball up from the edge of
the box and carried it to the 6 yard line before slotting it cleanly,
clinically and cleverly passed the helpless frozen keeper putting the
Reserves into the draw for the next round of the Interdivisional Cup.
Ref Watch : Not a lot to do although he could lose a few pounds
